I think it is personal preference or client preference where you put the social media icons. I personally like it at the top of the page where people can find it easily.

Find a library related organisation who uses multiple social media platforms to communicate with the users. Create a blog post explaining how they use the different platforms for different purposes. Do they put the same information on all platforms or do they tailor it to suit a different types of social media to talk about the same topic eg and event they are running what differences are there in the messages posted on different platforms?
I looked at Hobsons Bay Library, Yarra Plenty Regional Library and Victoria University Library.
Hobson Bay and Yarra Plenty Libraries were very similar in their approach to social media platforms and same focus as customers to a public library. VU has the academic focus.
Hobson Bay Library social media platform are Facebook, Twitter and YouTube.
Facebook and Twitter share similar information although twitters tweets are very short and to the point. They share competitions, upcoming events such as picnic day, questionaires, have the same photo's - teddy bear picnic, story time information, authors visits and council news.
YouTube has some similar contents with instructional video's, how to join the library, training video's and local events with Williamstown's first birthday on YouTube.
Yarra Plenty Regional Library social media platforms are Facebook, Twitter and a blog. On all sites they have events like nobel prize in literature winner, photo's, e-resources and videos.
Victoria University Library social media platforms are Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and LinkedIn.
VU facebook page has chit chat from students, events coming up and held like pink ribbon day and what is going on campus.
Twitter has reviews like the malthouse theatre, information sessions, whats on events and the bike hub general information. An informative site to let students know what is going on.
LinkedIn has events in campus with photo's, products and service courses at uni and employee insight.
YouTube focus is to inform and in. You have getting ready for V U., Vice Chancellors welcome, open day and general uni information at different campuses.

Explain the benefits and negative aspects of organisations posting information across a number of different social media platforms.
Benefits are getting your information to lots people who only use one social media platform.
Having RSS feeds means you get the information as soon as it is posted.
Negative is people get the same message from all their social media platforms. Frustrating!!

Task: Add library websites to your blog
Check these library websites:
- School Library Association of Victoria - http://www.slav.schools.net.au/ I thought this would be a great site because I am in the school industry. I looked at the tabs for professional development and resources. There were topics specific to school libraries like promote your library, challenged books and weeding guidelines. What I did not like about this website was some of the links did not work and the information on the homepage is very small to read.
- State Library of Victoria - http://www.slv.vic.gov.au/ This is such a fantastic site for all ages. What I like about the library is what it has to offer but also the building itself. Such a historical building located in central Melbourne. It is well worth a look in the reading room, and the dome. I recommend you take a tour.
- Yarra Plenty Regional Library - www.yprl.vic.gov.au/ A local library which is customer focused with easy tabs to access information throughout the site. On the homepage there is the catalogue search, news, the new titles are listed. The advanced search function include geographic regions, audience, language and many more.
- Toy Libraries Australia - http://www.toylibraries.org.au/ I wanted to put in a website that had a different collection. Toy Libraries provides with the opportunity to play with a wide range of quality educational toys. The aim to educate parents and carers on the value of play through all stages of children's development. The website has basic information about toy libraries and the option to find a toy library close to your location.
- Australian Library and Information Association - www.alia.org.au/ I like this website because it has up to date and relevant information for librarians by librarians. What I like is the homepage is visually interesting and you can navigate your way around the webpage easily.
- Hobsons Bay Libraries - libraries.hobsonsbay.vic.gov.au/
